More information about Workshops below. Victorian workshops Cost $200. Bookings: Virginia Lowe
Saturdays at Ormond. General workshops, largely picture books, Virgina Lowe, some with illustrator tutor as well). 2008
Virginia and John will be travelling overseas next year. Virginia is giving two academic papers in Europe and a workshop to a SCBWI meeting in the USA, and addressing two universities. We’ll be busy! Virginia will be away for approximately ten weeks: Germany at the end of March (paper on the years 0 – 3), London at the end of April (on poetry, at the British Museum), and New Hampshire SCBWI at the beginning of May. During this time, Sandra Bradshaw will keep the business going, the assessments will continue. The only aspects of the business to be affected will be that recommendatory letters will not be written, nor will the feedback on the ongoing picture book e-course happen. Everything else should be as normal |

| ABOUT WORKSHOPS Do you know how many pages there are in a picture book? How to make a storyboard? How to submit a piece of work to publishers? All this and much more! * Professional writers, artists and designers who wish to expand their career opportunities Everyone will benefit from these workshops. This is the only workshop which offers the experience of two enthusiastic and experienced tutors, one for the words and one for the pictures (though both can do either). There are exercises in the craft of writing, drawing and book design. We offer advice on approaching publishers, and also discuss ways of self-publishing. Novelists, short story writers and children's poets are all welcome and benefit from the experience of sharing their work with the other participants and the tutors. The workshops have been offered since 1997.
Virginia specialises in the writing process, structuring a story and the selection of words. She is happy to advise on the writing of books for children of all ages. Jo advises participants on the visual creation of characters and their environments, styles of drawing, painting and book design. Bring your story ideas, your characters, your anecdotes, the pictures that inspired you. If you have none of these, bring yourself and we guarantee you will have a workable story idea, structured to fit picture book format, by the end of the workshop day - something to work on during the next month. Come equipped with your work in hand, a sketch book and pencil, and also paper for writing. Novel Workshops: Novelist Jennifer Dabbs is the tutor, with Virginia Lowe. First chapters up to 1000 words will be assessed for participants in advance of the workshop (to be submitted at least a week before).
